Concerts 2006
2006 was a great year for live music for me. Moving to Boston for the school semester really helped too. Top concerts of the year include Akron/Family, The Books, The Bad Plus, Cut Chemist, Stereolab, Konono No. 1, and the Dave Holland Quintet. Worst show was probably Ariel Pink. Another cool show was The Weird Weeds in Cambridge at this weird apartment/art gallery in Inman Square with about 5 people there. Other concerts include Bob Dylan, Merle Haggard, Beck, Jamie Lidell, The Album Leaf, The Octopus Project, Ron Carter, Kurt Rosenwinkel & Mark Turner & Billy Hart, Man Man, Ben Monder, The Fiery Furnaces, Lyrics Born, Edan & Dagha, Matmos & So Percussion, Sonic Youth, Either/Orchestra, John Scofield & Steve Swallow, and probably lots of others in Denton that I forgot about. Here are some tickets:
Sonic Youth was loud and taut rock music
Ron Carter told me to practice every day
I've never heard a band ape Captain Beefheart and Tom Waits like these fellas
John Scofield wails
Scofield's setlist as well
The set by The Bad Plus was at once crazed, manic, sweet, reflective, beautiful, with a sprinkle of rock music (Rush, Tears for Fears)
Wonderful guitar trio led by Ben Monder
I got there extremely late for this show, but what I heard was intoxicating; Keith Fullerton Whitman also on the bill
Dave Holland's Quintet with Nate Smith on drums and Antonio Hart on saxophone—stunning group consciousness
Decent rock show
Cut Chemist is a genius at the wheels of steel and the bass player for Lyrics Born was laying down some sick shit
Yooooooooooooooooo Victa!
